Rule upon your Mind
Your mind is the most potent tool you have that helps in making your
life beautiful. It should be used judiciously otherwise your own thoughts would
make you wander aimlessly making you hang in between the past, present, and
future? And when that happens, it makes you struggle with tension, anxiety,
stress, and other negative emotions.
Further, your mind affects your thought-process greatly that in turn
shapes the way you see the reality and take actions. Therefore, you should know
how to rule the collective power of your conscious & subconscious minds so
that you can use them in the way you want.
In fact, you have two choices before you; either you control your mind
or it will start controlling you. Now if you are wondering how to control this
thought machine, there are ways. Lord Krishna has already shown that way in the
Bhagavad Gita.
When Arjun asks Him, how to control the mind, He says indeed it is
difficult to control the mind, but it’s not impossible to achieve that. Through
perseverance and renunciation, a man can achieve victory on the mind. This is
an incredible theme of Gita, teaching the whole world how to control the mind.
The Dilemmas of Mind
There is no doubt in it that everyone in this world faces dilemmas. At
some point of time, everybody gets restless due to the turbulent nature of emotions
that are uncontrollable. At times we see, people are stressed and disturbed
despite being raised in a prosperous family. So, this is not true that those
who are deprived, only they experience mental dilemmas. Affluent people face
such situations as well.
In life, these psychological, emotional and relationship problems are
complex issues and it is crucial to resolve them. Therefore, Lord Shri Krishna
says, all such issues can be resolved by controlling the mind through renunciation
and diligence.
But, how?
The Mind is Fickle, Know that!
First, know the technique of self-realization and then try for detachment.
Issues that you want to avoid in life, detach yourself from those issues. Practice
selective rejection and avoid attachment. If you have to go to your home, let
your body move towards home only and not towards the marketplace. If the
attraction remains in the marketplace, you cannot reach home.
So God says, controlling the mind means returning to home. Manushya (man) means someone with a
mind. We perceive ourselves as a mind and spend our lives according to the mind
only. But the mind is fickle. It changes opinions every moment. The man who
gets stuck in the fickleness of the mind will face problems all his life,
because hanging in duality is the habit of the mind. It cannot get monistic (Adwait). The thoughts alter frequently.
The mind and its thought-process change rapidly. At once a person is
willing to offer a charity, and instantly he feels like not giving at all, rather
he yearns to usurp everything of the fellow people. The mind hangs in such
extremities.
And Lord Krishna makes us comprehend how to control such a fickle mind through
sincere practice and dispassionate detachment. Once it becomes a practice,
anybody can easily rule upon his mind and live a blessed and contented life.
