The human
body is made of panchbhoot tatva, and
that is the reason our body needs sunlight, a touch of the earth, some deep
breaths, some water to survive, and a
restful night. But in these apocalyptic times of the pandemic, everyone
is worried about their family and their health, but unable to step out of their
homes to enjoy most of it. We all are busy looking for ways to improve our immune system so that
we can keep this coronavirus at bay. But we also must be aware of the fact that
immunity cannot be enhanced in just a few days, it takes time.
His Holiness Sudhanshu
Ji Maharaj stresses the importance of the immune system and inner strength
because both are essential to fight any disease. So here are some measures to
cope with the on-going pandemic and what all we can do to improve our immunity:
1. Healthy diet: Unhealthy food choices lead to a
weak immune system. A recent example is our neighbouring country- China, where
people eat non vegetarian foods, we cannot even imagine hurting, and get
sick every now and then. To have better
immunity, we need to consume more or less a vegetarian diet, boiled food,
including sprouts. What’s to be noted is
that Vitamin C enriched grenn chutney should be an essential part of every meal
Other routines that can also be included in one’s daily
lifestyle are gargles with lukewarm saltwater, drinking turmeric water
(lukewarm) once a day, using aloe vera in an appropriate form, consuming gilloy kadha, eating raw black pepper
mixed with honey, having some neem ras
(juice of neem leaves) to name a few.
2. Proper Sleep: An adult person needs an
undisturbed sleep of 6 hours, whereas infants and children need 8 to 10 hours’
sleep[1] , respectively[2] . One needs to be calm and happy, and
absorb as much life energy as possible during sleep. Sound sleep helps us
maintain a strong nervous system, improving our overall health.
3. Lifestyle: After diet and sleep comes the 3rd
pillar of the human body, i.e., Lifestyle! One needs to sleep on time, wake up
on time, and keep the body up and going to live a better life in the long run.
One also needs to adopt a physical activity plan including 3 types of exercises
daily:
a. Cardio – be it jogging, running, brisk
walking, whatever suits your body and age, just go for it. It keeps you and
your body active.
b. Yogasan – be open to any form of yoga that
helps you keep going. It not only prevents you from many diseases but also
prepares your body to fight infections. Start with stretching aasans which will improve your
flexibility in the long run.
c. Pranayam –pranayam (breathing exercises) will help you boost your overall
immune system. Include 3 basic Pranayams
in your daily routine, Anulom Vilom, Kapalabhati, and Bhastrika. You can also add Ujjayi
Pranayama and Agnisar Kriya Pranayama.
But those with any gastric problem or recent surgeries should avoid doing the
latter.
While working on these 3 pillars of the body, one should keep
some basic things in mind, like washing hands frequently with soap and water,
not touching any public surface, refrain from touching your face repeatedly, to
name a few.
Besides immunity the covid prevention guidelines are
essential for all to follow. Everyone must practice social distancing and
self-hygiene to protect themselves and their community from this vicious
coronavirus. Follow the important safety guidelines being issued by the local
public health authorities.
